Glyptics

Stéphane, a glyptic artist and geologist, comes from Paris to share in Switzerland his expertise in and passion for gem engraving.
Over these two days, he will guide you step by step through this fascinating art, combining precise gestures, work on stone and the passing on of a rare craft.

Introduction to glyptics – Level 1
Two intensive days to discover glyptics, focusing mainly on intaglio work.
The workshop is deliberately hands-on, so that as much time as possible is spent working the stone, mastering the tools and learning engraving techniques.
This course is a level 1. It provides the foundations needed to move on to level 2 after a period of personal practice.

Advanced glyptics – Level 2
This second session is for participants who have already completed level 1 and wish to deepen their practice.
The work focuses more on precision, mastery of volume and more complex motifs. Participants will refine their intaglio technique, work on more detailed engravings and develop carving in the round, notably by working on a scarab.
The aim is also to become more independent, refine your gestures and progress on more personal projects, with ongoing technical guidance.
Prerequisite: completion of level 1 or equivalent basic knowledge of glyptics
